Dez Bryant trolled Mike McCarthy after Monday Night Football

Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant mocked coach Mike McCarthy for Bryant’s infamous 2014 playoff “non-catch.”

In a massive 20-point win, the Dallas Cowboys welcomed another win with a 41-21 final score. The major lead was in spite of calls going against the Cowboys rather than for them, something that Dez Bryant was quick to remind Mike McCarthy of in the post-game press conference.

Dez Bryant was at the beginning of Mike McCarthy’s post-game press conference: “Hey Coach, I caught that in Green Bay!”

McCarthy laughed.

Dez as he was leaving: “Make sure you fix that, Rich!”

Bryant is referring to the incredible catch — or “no-catch”, rather — he made in the Divisional Round of the 2014 NFL playoffs. Playing against McCarthy’s Green Bay Packers, Bryant made what should have been a touchdown, but McCarthy challenged the play claiming that the ball touched the ground before it was a legal catch.

Dez Bryant trolled Mike McCarthy with infamous “No-Catch” reference

McCarthy’s challenge changed the course of the Cowboys franchise, which McCarthy flocked to after Jason Garrett’s struggles and McCarthy’s own incompetence in Green Bay.

It’s also no coincidence that Bryant wasn’t signed after the Cowboys cut him, a decision that could have been altered if Bryant helped the team win a Super Bowl.

The most painful part of it all is that Bryant’s reception was officially ruled a catch three years later. Apparently Bryant announced this July that he’s creating a documentary focused on that 2014 season.

The outrage over the mistaken playoff call ignited outrage amongst Cowboys fans, who speculated that the referees and NFL at large were all biased against America’s Team. The moment spurred the #DezCaughtIt hashtag, which Bryant was quick to remind McCarthy of all these years later.

Bryant knows he caught it, Cowboys fans know he caught it, and if the catch happened in 2021, it’s certain McCarthy would have known it, too.
