Watch: Steelers fan runs on field, immediately embarrasses himself by John Buhler

Seattle Seahawks safety Jamal Adams declared himself the “best in the nation” in his Sunday Night Football introduction. The on-screen graphic said otherwise.

The Seattle Seahawks pulled off the big move to acquire safety Jamal Adams in a trade last year with the New York Jets. They since rewarded him with a huge contract extension worth $70 million over four-years.

During Sunday Night Football against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Adams introduced himself. Instead of saying what college or school he attended, the safety said that he was the “best in the nation.”

Even with his confident statement, the on-screen graphic noted that he was ranked 62nd out of 85 safeties by Pro Football Focus.

You have to admire Adam’s confidence. But it was a bit funny seeing the on-screen graphic offering a rebuttal to the safety’s statement.

Adams showed throughout his career that he is phenomenal at blitzing and getting to the quarterback. But when it comes to coverage, Adams leaves a lot to be desired.

Last year, Adams surrendered 35 completions for 411 yards on 45 targets through 12 games. Through five games in 2021 (prior to his Week 6 game against the Steelers), Adams allowed 13 receptions for 269 yards and two touchdowns on 19 targets. These statistics come courtesy of Pro Football Reference.

The Seahawks will need everyone, including Adams, playing their best football for the short-term with quarterback Russell Wilson out for the next couple of games. In last week’s game against the Los Angele Rams, Wilson injured his right middle finger on a pass attempt and underwent surgery earlier this week. He was subsequently placed on injured reserve.

The Seahawks have their first test against the Steelers.
