San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan provided a hilarious answer when asked about the team’s interest in trading for Aaron Rodgers.

Over the summer, there was no hotter topic to discuss than the potential trades for Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. The thought was Rodgers could possibly end up making his way either to San Francisco or Denver.

In the end, Rodgers stayed put in Green Bay. With the 49ers and Packers getting ready to face off this weekend, Kyle Shanahan was asked about what the team was getting ready to offer for No. 12. His answer was priceless.

Asked Kyle Shanahan: “What was your initial offer going to be for Aaron Rodgers?”

KS: “You.”

Beyond humbling, but not sure he’s aware future HOF QBs can’t be traded for beat writers. #49ers

Kyle Shanahan trolled a beat reporter when asked about an Aaron Rodgers trade

The reporter who asked Shanahan about the trade offer was Eric Branch. Shanahan replied by saying the team offered Branch in exchange for Rodgers? What a compliment.

Shanahan didn’t hesitate in his answer and everyone surely got quite the chuckle from it. The 49ers ended up using an early pick on signal-caller Trey Lance in the NFL Draft, which pretty much wiped away any hope SF fans had of Rodgers making his way back to the Bay Area.

After an embarrassing start to the season – a 38-3 loss to the New Orleans Saints – Rodgers bounced back in a massive way in Week 2. Going up against the Detroit Lions on Monday Night Football, Rodgers finished the victory with four touchdowns.

Now, Rodgers has turned his focus to San Francisco. The Sunday Night Football battle between the two teams will surely be one to remember. Shanahan will hope that Jimmy Garoppolo will be able to do more than enough to help the home team record a win. If Green Bay wins, San Francisco will get a first-hand look at just how special Rodgers could have been for them.
