Lecturer Hilariously Uses Genshin Impact’s Waypoints Map to Teach

Ever wanted to see games in school? One professor surprised her students and took to using a Genshin Impact Waypoints map in a lecture.

Genshin Impact made a huge splash in gaming when it first launched, and now, it’s making waves in education.

In a philosophy lecture, one professor surprised her classroom with an expected example – a map of Genshin Impact‘s Waypoints. A classroom is for sure a hilariously unexpected place to see Genshin Impact (and for a philosophy lecture, no less!), but the professor pointed out how game design is closely tied to how people think and behave.

GENSHIN IMPACT‘S WAYPOINTS MAP

In the original post on Facebook, the student shows their Philosophy professor using a map from Genshin Impact as an example in her lecture. Displaying the lands surrounding Mondstadt, the professor had pointed out a few particular Waypoints in the area.

She used the map to show that people tend to take the shortest route available to complete a task. Using the Waypoints allows players to fast travel instead of taking the long walk from Dawn Winery to Mondstadt. Essentially, these Waypoints help to create shortcuts between locations on Genshin Impact‘s massive map, saving players time to instead slay some enemies.

WHAT THIS REVEALS ABOUT GAME DESIGN

Aside from being just a funny and unexpected place to see Genshin Impact, the map used in the lecture shows how important travel mechanics like Waypoints are. As the lecturer says, people are most likely to take the shortest route to complete a task – and it’s no different in games.

It’s a fine balance between exploration and pace. Developers want their players to spend time traveling and interacting with the world around them. On the other hand, too much traveling can slow the pace of the game, making an Action-Adventure game relaxed or even sluggish instead.

This is an especially important design aspect for open world games like Genshin Impact, where one of its biggest appeals is its expansive map. The Waypoints provide the needed balance in pace and exploration and gives players the freedom to easily return to any location they desire.

Overall, fans can look forward to exploring the upcoming launch, Genshin Impact Version 2.2 Into the Perilous Labyrinth of Fog. Two new characters will be available to play in Version 2.3, which is coming sometime later this year.
