Lopez and Manzanilla go to war in Cancun

Mexican Christopher Lopez will test his level when he faces Venezuelan Franklin Manzanilla this Saturday for the World Boxing Association (WBA) international super bantamweight title.

Both will step into the ring at the Oasis Hotel Complexion in Cancun, Mexico, in a bout that looks very interesting on paper. For Lopez, 24, it will be an opportunity to show his quality and what he is capable of doing in boxing.

The undefeated fighter has a great knockout effectiveness and the motivation to show off in front of his people in his first opportunity for a title like this. However, the opposition he has had so far does not resemble what Manzanilla can offer and for that reason there are many expectations around the fight.

The 33-year-old Venezuelan is an awkward fighter who puts a lot of pressure on his opponents. He has a powerful left hook and has fought for the world title. He already knows what it’s like to win in Mexico, as he defeated Julio Ceja in May 2018.

In 2019 he faced Rey Vargas for world belt and knocked him down once, although he ultimately lost by unanimous decision.

Lopez has won 13 of his 14 professional fights, with one draw and 10 knockouts. Manzanilla, on the other hand, has a record of 20 wins, 6 losses and 19 knockouts.
