Marrero won the WBA-Fedecentro belt in Florida

Puerto Rican Miguel Marrero won the World Boxing Association (WBA) Fedecentro lightweight title by defeating Mexican Victor Betancourt on Friday night during the main bout of the event held in Kissimmee, Florida.

The judges’ scorecards were 97-93, 96-94 and 95-95 in a very entertaining fight that gave the victory as well as the title of regional champion of the pioneer organization to the Puerto Rican.

During the 10 rounds of the fight, Marrero fought against a brave and tough Betancourt who proposed good exchanges until the end of the bout. The Manatí native is 32 years old and this victory helps him move up in the boxing world. 

Betancourt started as the favorite on paper but was surprised by a motivated Marrero, who did a great job and took a well-deserved victory in the event organized by All Star Boxing.

Marrero improved his record 10 wins, 1 loss, 2 draws and 4 knockouts, while the Mexican dropped his to 27 wins, 4 reverses and 14 knockouts.
