Kirk Cousins led the Minnesota Vikings to a win over Seattle at home, and Mike Zimmer is thrilled.

The Minnesota Vikings are sitting at 1-2 after a sound 30-17 win over the Seattle Seahawks in their home opener. Following their first victory of the season, head coach Mike Zimmer seems to be in great spirits. In fact, he was so delighted with the win that he even went as far as praising quarterback Kirk Cousins‘ performance.

Anyone who has followed the NFL at all this season knows Zimmer has publicly bashed Cousins repeatedly over the past couple of months. Luckily for the Vikings, the strained relationship between the two seems to have been repaired at least slightly by Cousins’ spectacular play in Week 3.

Zimmer on Cousins:

“Kirk played outstanding today. He saw the blitzes, made some nice throws under duress… He’s working on being a better general, and I think he’s done a great job with that. I’m proud of him. He’s played well.”

Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer praises Kirk Cousins after win

Zimmer is proud of Cousins. Who would have thought?

All it took for Cousins to get such high praise from his coach was 323 passing yards, three touchdowns, and a 128.4 quarterback rating. It seems like a tall order for a quarterback to consistently compete at that level for his head coach to compliment him, but Cousins is on track to keep it up. On the season he’s thrown for eight touchdowns, zero interceptions, and 918 yards. He has now played 17 games straight with a QBR of 90 or higher, which is the second-longest streak ever behind Peyton Manning.

With an injured Dalvin Cook, Zimmer will continue to rely on Cousins for offensive production. The next few weeks might do a whole lot to fix the head coach and quarterback’s relationship for Minnesota if Cousins can stay consistent.
