SEC counting on LSU football to come through

Week 1 of the college football season is almost complete, but there is one big game remaining on the weekend. On Sunday, Sept. 4, the LSU Tigers take on the Florida State Seminoles. It is the very first game for new LSU head coach Brian Kelly, who enters the tough SEC after spending years at Notre Dame.

Speaking of, there is even more pressure on the Tigers. The rest of the conference won their Week 1 games. If LSU loses, the rest of the SEC has bragging rights throughout the week.

LSU football needs to win to keep undefeated Week 1 for SEC intact

The top teams in the conference were victorious. No. 1 ranked Alabama unsurprisingly cruised to a 55-0 win over Utah State. The defending national champion Georgia Bulldogs destroyed the No. 11 Oregon Ducks by the score of 49-3. No. 6 Texas A&M defeated Sam Houston 31-0.

There were also some huge surprises in the SEC this week. The unranked Florida Gators, in Billy Napier’s debut as the program’s head coach, pulled off a clutch 29-26 victory over the No. 7 Utah Utes after a clutch end zone interception by defensive back Amari Burney.

Here is how the rest of the SEC fared in Week 1:

  • Vanderbilt def. Elon 42-31
  • Tennessee def. Ball State 59-10
  • Missouri def. Louisiana Tech 52-24
  • No. 19 Arkansas def. No. 23 Cincinnati 31-24
  • No. 21 Ole Miss def. Troy 28-10
  • Auburn def. Mercer 42-16
  • No. 20 Kentucky def. Miami (OH) 37-13
  • Mississippi State def. Memphis 49-23
  • South Carolina def. Georgia State 35-14

LSU vs. Florida State takes place on Sunday, Sept. 4 at 7:30 p.m. ET, live from Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.

No pressure, LSU.
