Spider-Man: No Way Home now officially has the highest Rotten Tomatoes audience score for any film that has garnered more than 20,000 reviews. There was and is still a lot of hype surrounding this movie. No Way Home had the second highest-grossing domestic opening weekend of all time and has already grossed more than $750 million worldwide in just one week. This puts the film already ahead of what both Amazing Spider-Man films grossed in their entirety.

At the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home, a video from Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) was released that he filmed moments before he died. In the video, he claimed that Spider-Man was the one who killed him and revealed his identity was Peter Parker. After the video is released by J. Jonah Jameson, Peter’s life gets turned upside down. He goes to old friend/co-worker, Doctor Strange, to try to find a way to manipulate time and make it so that the video was never released.

Now, Rotten Tomatoes has reported via Twitter that No Way Home broke the record for the highest audience rating of any major motion picture. Rotten Tomatoes has two ratings: critic and audience. The critic review score is always the percent of critics who gave the film a positive review. No Way Home achieved an impressive but not record-breaking critic score of 94%. The audience score is based off of the reviews of people who are not critics, which would be most people. The film received an audience rating of 99%, which is incredibly impressive. Check out Rotten Tomatoes’ tweet below:

The Spider-Man live-action films have not been very consistent when it comes to audience scores. Tobey Maguire’s trilogy scored 67%, 82%, and 51%. Andrew Garfield’s films scored 77% and 64%. Tom Holland’s films scored 87%, 95%, and now, 99%. Spider-Man 3 and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in particular received a significant amount of criticism and led to Sony recasting the character. It seems that Sony has redeemed those movies with a stellar continuation in No Way Home. Rotten Tomatoes is not the only site reporting positive news for the webslinger’s latest outing. No Way Home is ranked at number 9 on the IMDb Top 250.

It seems that from the conception of this film, the filmmakers were trying to please Spider-Man fans of all three live action iterations. This is what drove them to bring back Maguire, Garfield, and several villains from the previous two iterations. Some of the most memorable moments of the film were when the three Spider-Men interacted with each other. The fans were pleased to see the surprise old faces in the film, but they were more impressed that the characters were woven into Holland’s universe so well. The Spider-Man: No Way Home screenwriters tried to avoid lazy fan service, and based on the film’s impressive audience score, it seems that they achieved their mission.
