Students with the Thames Valley District School Board will transition to online learning as Environment Canada calls for wintry weather today. The London Catholic District School Board has told students to work independently on school work today.
Southwestern Ontario Student Transportation Services says all school purpose vehicles are cancelled for the day in London and Elgin, Oxford and Middlesex counties.
Thames Valley students are expected to log into remote learning today. Those attending London District Catholic school board schools are “encouraged to take the opportunity to complete current work or assignments; or prepare for upcoming assignments, quizzes or tests,” the board said in a statement.
The cancellations have been announced as Environment Canada calls for “messy” wintry weather, including freezing rain and snow, which has led a winter storm warning.
That will turn to heavy snow on Thursday afternoon and evening, with as much as 20 cm of snow expected.
“Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas. Ice build-up may cause tree branches to break.
