Usyk is WBA Boxer of the month

The World Boxing Association (WBA) released its rankings for the month of September and also the monthly awards, with Oleksandr Usyk as the Boxer of the Month and Aidos Yerbossynuly as the Honorable Mention.

Usyk was undoubtedly the most outstanding fighter of the ninth month of the year as he scored a giant victory over the hitherto unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua and won the WBA Super Championship from him, along with the WBO and IBF versions, last Saturday, September 25 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England.

The Ukrainian came to his first big fight in the division and gave a master class against an opponent whose entire career has been carried out at heavyweight. His mobility and combinations were key to dominating Joshua for 12 rounds and defeating him by unanimous decision of 117-112, 116-112 and 116-112.

Usyk had become the undisputed cruiserweight champion and came to the heavyweight with the intention of doing the same. He already has three of the four belts and only needs to win the WBC’s, held by Fury, to achieve his goal.

Meanwhile, Kazakhstan’s Yerbossynuly scored a 10th round technical knockout in his super welterweight eliminator fight on September 12 and is now the division’s top title contender. The 29-year-old fighter looked forceful against another top-ranked Allen and proved he is ready for the big challenges at 154 pounds.

The WBA rankings lists with all the changes for the month of September are available to the public in the corresponding section of the official website of the pioneer body.
