WBA mourns the death of Osvaldo Bisbal

The World Boxing Association (WBA) and the sport’s entire family deeply regret the death of Osvaldo Bisbal, president of the Argentine Boxing Federation (FAB).

Bisbal fought for boxing from various fields to try to make it a better sport. He served as a judge and referee in the Olympic Games of Los Angeles 1984, Seoul 88, Barcelona 92 and Atlanta 96, where he was referee of the heavyweight final between Wladimir Klitschko and Paea Wolfgram.

From 1991 to 2014 he was president of the FAB and returned to the position this year due to the death of president Luis Romio. In 2014 he was elected president of AIBA where he was very active as he was a member of the Executive Committee since 1998. In addition, he chaired for many years the American Boxing Confederation.

Bisbal also had important links to professional boxing, he was very close to the WBA and had a great relationship with Gilberto Mendoza, president Emeritus of the pioneer organization. In addition, he became vice-president of the WBC.

Boxing loses one of its great defenders. However, his legacy will always be present among us.
