As Team USA soared in three Figure Skating events, the USA women’s hockey team was there to cheer them onto a comfortable lead in the sport.
There is a long-held tradition of cheering on fellow Team USA members as they compete in their respective events. Unfortunately, COVID protocols during Tokyo 2020 meant that athletes had to return home within 48 hours of their last event, meaning by the final Olympic events, there was no Olympians left to cheer on these athletes.
But the tradition remains strong in Beijing, as the Team USA women’s hockey team showed up in numbers to rally around American figure skaters in the Winter Olympic’s premier skating events.
The women’s hockey team was cheering on the the USA figure skating team in the Team Event, Men’s & Pairs Short Program, and Rhythm Dance competitions.
Team USA women’s hockey squad shows up to support Team USA figure skating
It looks as if the cheers of support boded well for Team USA, as the United States is leading in first place after three of eight skating segments. American skating star Nathan Chen scored the second-highest short program score ever while skating in the team event with a score of 111.71 points. Teammates Madison Hubbel and Zachary Donohue finished first in rhythm dance, and Alexa Knierim and Brandon Frazier placed third in the pairs short program.
It wasn’t just the women’s hockey team cheering on Team USA’s figure skating squad: four synchronized skating teams filmed a skating performance in an effort to wish them luck before their showcase in Beijing.
Unfortunately, the women’s hockey team was not as lucky in their Olympic debut. The team has lost star player Brianna Decker during their preliminary-round win over Finland.
