The New Orleans Saints look to get back in the win column next week when they face the Tennessee Titans.
The New Orleans Saints had all of the momentum heading into Week 9, as they just defeated the defending Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers. On paper, it looked to be an easy matchup for the Saints, as they hosted the Atlanta Falcons. Despite bouncing back from a 24-6 deficit, the Falcons pulled off the 27-25 victory on a game-ending field goal by Younghoe Koo.
With the loss helping the Falcons enter the playoff picture, New Orleans now moves on to Week 10, and it won’t be an easy challenge. They are facing the Tennessee Titans, who handedly defeated the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday Night Football, even though the score does not show that.
5 bold predictions for the Saints against the Titans
5. Saints run defense makes Titans run game a non-factor
The Saints have one thing they can hang their hat on, and that is they can effectively stop the run.
They did so this past week against Atlanta, where Mike Davis, Cordarrelle Patterson, Matt Ryan and Feleipe Franks picked up a total of 34 yards on 25 carries. That is an average of 1.4 yards per run. Through eight games, the Saints have surrendered just 73.8 rushing yards to the opposition, making them the best run defense in the entire NFL.
Usually, opposing teams have to worry about stopping Derrick Henry, who is a one-man wrecking crew when carrying the ball. However, he is out indefinitely due to a foot injury that could very well knock him out for the remainder of the season.
The Titans got their first taste of life without Henry against the Rams defense, where they picked up just 69 yards on 26 attempts by five different ball-carriers.
The Saints will hold the Titans to under 100 yards rushing.
