UK-based firm, Amalgam Collection — famous for its incredibly realistic replica models — has just released a new series of handmade Formula 1 collectibles. The series is fronted by a quarter-size replica of Lewis Hamilton’s 2020 championship-winning Formula 1 car, the Mercedes-AMG F1 W11 EQ Performance car.

This limited-edition replica has gotten the details down to a T, it was developed on request from the Mercedes Petronas F1 team. Most of Amalgam Collection’s replicas are scaled own to 1:8 or 1:12 but the W11 was built at the 1:4 scale and measures at 49 inches long, it captures every single technical detail of the real car’s bodywork, down to even the smallest aerodynamic pieces.

The actual car itself took three long years to develop, the W11 was Mercedes-AMG’s attempt to overcome its long struggle with cornering. The car was helmed by Hamilton during the 2020 F1 season and helped him claim 11 first-place finishes. Which also, in turn, helped Mercedes nab the Constructors Championship and Hamilton his seventh Drivers’ Championship. The car also earned the fastest pole position lap in history at the Italian Grand Prix.

As a request from the Mercedes Petronas team, Amalgam Collection use CAD designs approved by the Mercedes-AMG team and spent 4,500 hours developing and 450 hours building the model.

If you’re keen on getting Amalgam Collection’s W11 for yourself, do it quickly as the company only plans to make seven 1:4-scale W11s at US$35,000. Smaller options are also available in 1:8-scale and 1:18-scale models of the W11 EQ Performance. There’s also a full-size replica of its steering wheel, measuring 11 inches across. The replica models are available to purchase on its website.

Gucci and Hot Wheels also their own mini car recently, the 1979 Gucci Cadillac Seville. The two brands partnered up to turn the Cadillac Seville into a 1:64 scale model as part of the fashion house’s 100th birthday. The model is limited to 5,000 units and is priced at US$120.

Can’t get enough of cars? The Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles recently opened its new exhibition entirely dedicated to hypercars on Saturday (December 4). The exhibition is called, “Hypercars: The Allure of the Extreme”. Over the course of 18 months, the two-part show will define what counts as a hypercar. The second part will run from September 17, 2022, to May 14, 2023.
