The Cleveland Browns have officially ruled out Baker Mayfield for their Thursday Night Football game against the Denver Broncos.
An injury suffered in mid-September will finally keep Baker Mayfield from playing in a game.
Mayfield has been playing through a torn labrum in his non-throwing shoulder since Week 2. In last week’s battle against the Arizona Cardinals, he took another shot to that side, which knocked him out of the game briefly. Now it looks like it will keep him from playing in Week 7.
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Mayfield fought to play Thursday but the team announced they will be without their starting quarterback.

Missing Thursday’s game will give Mayfield two full weeks to get his shoulder right. He has been toughing it out for four games but it appears that Sunday’s blow did more damage than expected. Luckily for all parties involved, it is his non-throwing shoulder; that should give the front office and fans some solace.

In his absence, the Browns will have veteran quarterback Case Keenum at the helm. Keenum joined Cleveland last year where he served as Mayfield’s backup, appearing in two games. He has jumped around the NFL playing for six teams in his ten-year career.
The Browns have been bit severely by the injury bug this year. Both running backs Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt are dealing with their own injuries. Wide receiver Jarvis Landry has been in and out of the lineup, while both starting tackles are struggling with injuries of their own.
Cleveland, after their home game against the Broncos, will stay in town for a divisional game against the rival Steelers in Week 8.
