The Green Bay Packers released former Dallas Cowboys linebacker Jaylon Smith less than a month after signing him.
The playing days of Jaylon Smith with the Green Bay Packers didn’t last long. After Smith was released by the Dallas Cowboys, the Packers signed him to a new deal on Oct. 7. Now, though, Smith is already looking for a new home.
According to NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Packers have decided to release Smith after the linebacker only suited up in two games for the NFC North side.

Jaylon Smith was released right ahead of the NFL trade deadline
While all eyes for NFL fans are on teams potentially making moves before the trade deadline, the Packers pulled a fast one and released Smith. Now, the fifth-year pro is free to sign with a new team. In his two games with Green Bay, Smith posted just one tackle.
Jaylon Smith injury from college has had a negative impact on his career
Unfortunately for Smith, the serious knee injury he suffered during his final game with Notre Dame has really affected his play in the pros. Smith just hasn’t looked the same since that night in 2016 when he suffered his horrific ACL and LCL tears.
Despite falling to the second round of the NFL Draft, Smith was still hoping to bounce back and enjoy a long and successful career with the Cowboys. He ended up appearing in 68 games for Dallas, posting nine sacks and 517 tackles.
Dallas decided to part ways with him after six games this year, with Smith making two starts. Green Bay then wasted little time in giving him a second shot, but things didn’t work out for him at Lambeau Field. Only time will tell if someone decides to give Smith another chance.
