3 players the Packers should have traded for but didn’t

With the NFL trade deadline coming and going on Tuesday, the Green Bay Packers could end up regretting not making a trade for a tight end.

There were some surprising trades on Tuesday ahead of the deadline, and Green Bay Packers fans were hopeful that general manager Brian Gutekunst would work his magic to get something done. Alas, that didn’t happen.

For Green Bay in particular, the hope from the fanbase was that Gutekunst would have been able to go out and land a tight end following the news that Robert Tonyan is out for the season with his torn ACL. In this piece, we take a look at three guys who would have made sense for the team.

3 players the Packers should have traded for

3. Jacob Hollister

At the top of the list, Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Jacob Hollister could have been a smart pick-up for the Green Bay Packers here. The 6-foot-4, 240-pounder is in his first year with the Jacksonville Jaguars, but things have been an absolute mess with Urban Meyer in charge. As things stand, Jacksonville is 1-6 on the year, with its only win coming against the 1-7 Dolphins.

Hollister is yet to really find his footing with the Jaguars, as he’s only appeared in four games for the team this season, making two starts. Perhaps even more concerning, Hollister has four receptions for 21 yards and a touchdown.

While Hollister wasn’t known for being a catch machine for the Seattle Seahawks during the 2019 and 2020 seasons, he was a reliable option for the aerial attack and Russell Wilson whenever his number was called. In 2019, Hollister caught 41 passes for 349 yards and three touchdowns.

That shows you he’s more than capable of coming down with some big-time receptions when the pigskin is thrown his way. Hollister also could have been a cheap option for the Green Bay front office to fill in for the injured Tonyan.
