Bears give update on Justin Fields’ injury before Lions game

Chicago Bears head coach Matt Nagy provided a minor update on quarterback Justin Fields’ rib injury after the Bears lost to the Baltimore Ravens.

During the Chicago Bears’ bumbling loss to the Baltimore Ravens, the Bears got some bad news as talented quarterback Justin Fields was injured, forcing Chicago to turn to Andy Dalton to finish out the game.

It appeared as if Fields had his ribs hurt and that’s why he was sidelined, but it looks like there was a little more concern for his condition than just a generic rib injury. Fields apparently was taken to a hospital to have his spleen checked.

Following that, it appears as if the Bears are being cautious, both with Fields and also with what information they give out.

The Bears are working on figuring out what to do with Fields going forward. According to a tweet from ESPN’s Jeff Dickerson, Chicago head coach Matt Nagy said the NFL franchise is “still gathering facts” on the injury.

Unfortunately for Bears fans, that sort of vague update won’t really shed much light on whether or not Fields will be able to return to action soon.

Bears fans already aren’t fond of Nagy. This won’t do anything to endear him to folks in Chicago.

But, if we’re all being honest, there should be no rush to get Fields back playing anytime soon. He should probably be resting, getting fully healthy, and focusing on the future.

The Bears’ best chance at winning is likely with Fields starting for them, but they’ll need to make sure he’s fully healed and ready to go before they even think about playing him at all. Fields is the future in Chicago and this season is essentially over for the Bears.
