Before returning to Kaer Morhen, Eskel ran into a Leshy, but he couldn’t finish it off. The Witcher managed to cut off the monster’s hand, but he got stung by its roots. Initially, everyone thinks that Eskel is in pain because of his injury, and it will be healed with time. However, we later find out that the same Leshy infected Eskel, which turns him into a similar monster.

Eskel recognized Geralt and Vesemir in his monster form, but he couldn’t control his body. The Witchers try to save Eskel, but he grabs Vesemir by his neck and starts choking him. So, Geralt makes a difficult choice and ends Eskel’s life by putting fire through his heart.
