Google’s Pixel smartphones have a loyal audience. However, the company has failed to get Pixel phones into the stratosphere of premium flagships currently dominating Samsung and Apple, which is changing this year with the releases of the Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro.
We finally have two flagship phones from Google that spare no effort. These are modern flagships for the modern consumer. It’s been taking too long, but Google seems willing to give up its belief that mediocre hardware is fine as long as phones have great software.

Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro at a glance
Google released the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro on October 19, 2021. Months earlier, the company was constantly releasing a lot of official information about phones. By the time the launch event took place, we already knew almost everything there was to know.
Google Pixel 6
The cheapest Pixel
The Google Pixel 6 has a 6.4-inch FHD + screen and is powered by the new Google Tensor SoC. It has an upgraded camera system, exclusive software features, and has some of the best hardware that Google has. ever produced.
The Vanilla Google Pixel 6 is Google’s new standard flagship. It has numerous updates to all of the previous Pixels, including a new 50 MP main camera sensor, an in-display fingerprint scanner, a new custom processor, and a massive 4,600 mAh battery. It also features a radical redesign that makes it more similar to the Nexus 6P than any previous Pixel.
The Pixel 6 starts at $ 599 / £ 599 / € 649 for the model with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. It is available in three colour combinations: Kinda Coral (shades of pink), Sorta Seafoam (green and yellow) and Stormy Black (black and grey). Please note that this unlocked model doesn’t support mmWave 5G (it’s Sub6 5G only).
Google Pixel 6 Pro
The Pixel 6 Pro outshines its little brother with a 6.7-inch QHD + display and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. It has the same two rear cameras as the Pixel 6, but with an additional 4x optical telephoto lens.
Unsurprisingly, the Google Pixel 6 Pro is a larger premium variant of the Pixel 6, with a larger curved 120 Hz display, an additional camera lens on the back (telephoto) and a 5,000 mAh larger battery.
The Pixel 6 Pro is also more expensive than the Pixel 6, starting at $ 899 for the model with 12GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. It is also available in three colour combinations: Cloudy White (white and grey), Sorta Sunny (yellow and orange) and Stormy Black (black and grey).
Whichever Pixel 6 you choose, pre-orders began on October 19th. In the US, general sales began on October 28th.
Is the Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro worth buying?
As mentioned earlier, this is the first time Google has released Pixel phones without compromising hardware. Until now, you had to make certain compromises when buying pixels. For example, the Google Pixel 4 had a ridiculously small battery and relied on Fully Face Unlock. The 2020 Google Pixel 5 had a very small form factor, a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, and a mid-range chipset. Pixels have always been like that.
By 2021, we finally have Pixel smartphones that meet the stringent hardware requirements that consumers are demanding of Android flagships. Internal specs, cameras, and displays are all better. Whether you like the new design or not is subjective. But at least the phones look and feel like premium devices.
All to say is that these are the Pixel fans who have been waiting, not only that, but buyers who have mocked Pixels in the past due to the above limitations may want the Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro an appearance.
Google is also extending its software support promise for these new phones. The Pixel 6 series will receive no less than five years of security patches and three years of version updates, making these phones a good long-term investment in software.
