Gehraiyaan deals with numerous types of relationships, navigating through difficult modern relationships, adulting, letting go, and taking charge of one’s life. The issue of infidelity is only the tip of the iceberg. With Gehraiyaan, filmmaker Shakun Batra dives headfirst into the uncharted territory for Hindi cinema: domestic noir.
Upon being asked in an interview with Filmfare, if any of the cast has cheated and or been cheated upon, Ananya Panday states, “I have not cheated for sure. (Laughs) Maybe I have been cheated upon but am not sure.”
Deepika Padukone, who plays Alisha in the film, explains that although she does not agree with certain choices, she is trying to be more empathetic. She elaborates, “While I may not personally endorse certain choices, one of my many learnings through this film’s experience has been to try and not ‘judge’ people for their choices and/or actions. To be empathetic and understand why people do what they do. And that isn’t restricted to infidelity alone.”
Siddhant Chaturvedi expressed that he prioritises transparency, “Definitely not cheated upon, at least that’s what I like to believe. It has to be very black or white for me. I cannot live in the grey area. It messes things up. I need to see things clearly. Ya and not cheated either.”, he said.
Gehraiyaan, starring Deepika Padukone, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Dhairya Karwa and Ananya Panday, was released Friday, February 11 on Amazon Prime Video worldwide.
